Biography

Thank you for visiting my eportfolio! My name is Corina Carmona, I teach art at Donna North High School in Donna, Texas, a small town known as the "Heart of the Valley".   I am a proud graduate of Donna High School.  I completed my Associate of Arts in Visual Art from South Texas College, and graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American with a Bachelor in Fine Art- Studio Art.   I completed the Donna RIGHT MTT program and earned my Master Technology Teacher certification program at the University of Texas at Brownsville.  I am a dedicated practicing artist who chose to be an art teacher in my hometown to give back to my community by expanding the creativity and independent thought of the youth in Donna.

I have  served as a mentor teacher, Art Club sponsor, and Visual Art Scholastic Event Sponsor, and have worked on the Annual Reign of Dreamers Anthology of poetry and art/poetry workshops/evening of art and poetry.  I am an active member of the Rio Grande Valley Coalition for Mexican American Studies, and have presented at the Texas Art Education Assocation, National Association of Chicana Chicano Studies Tejas Foco, Southwest Popular American Culture Association, and the AnnualTexas Tech Conference on Women.

I am currently working on my Master of Art Education through Texas Tech University.

Artwork

Corina's artistic journey began in a painting course she took at South Texas College taught by Richard Smith, whom helped her find her calling as an artist.  It was that pivotal moment in which she decided to switch her academic major from Computer Aided Drafting to Visual Art.  She went on to study studio art under many influential instructors such as Ed Garcia, Iris Lee, Lenard Brown, and Richard Hyslin.
